Frequently Asked Questions.

How many sessions will I need?

This is entirely up to you. I can work with you in an open-ended manner in which we do not have an end date but instead, work collaboratively and regularly review the work and how you are experiencing counselling. I also offer brief short-term therapy in which we will agree to a set number of sessions (i.e. 6 sessions) during our initial contracting and we will work within that session limit. In this case, it can be helpful to have a specific goal in mind to get the most from your sessions.

How do I know if counselling is for me?

Anyone can benefit from counselling, whether you are going through a particularly difficult time right now or, you feel that now is a good time for you to work on developing your understanding of yourself. I can help you to understand your thoughts and feelings to create a better understanding of yourself, others and your relationships to promote healing and growth.

What happens after I reach out to you?

When you feel ready to reach out to me you can get in touch by email, phone, WhatsApp or the “Contact Me” section on this website. From there, I’ll contact you* to arrange a free initial consultation appointment. This will be a short, 15-20 minute phone call . This is a space for you to share your reasons for seeking counselling and your goals. It is also an opportunity for you to hear about how I work and for me to determine whether I am able to work safely with you regarding the issues you plan to bring to your counselling .

After this initial call, if we both think we would be a good fit, we can book in your first session in Cheltenham or online. I will also email you over the counselling contract and personal details form for you read through. However, following the initial call, there is no obligation to start counselling if you do not want to.

*if you have a preferred method of contact or specific contact hours then just let me know in your initial contact and I will hold this in mind when responding to you

What happens in the first session?

During the first session, we will begin by going through the counselling contract together to ensure your understanding and I will answer any questions you may have either about the contract, or how we will work together. I will then invite you to share any goals or expectations you have for the counselling sessions and together we will explore what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to gain from it.

How much will it cost?

I charge a fee of £50 for a 50 minute counselling session. I do have some concessionary slots available for individuals on a low income though, if you would require a discounted fee then please let me know when you first get in touch with me and I can give you more information on my availability and reduced fees.

Where do you work from in person?

I have a counselling room in Cheltenham where I work from for in-person sessions. This is located in Sunningend Business Centre in the Lansdown Industrial Estate near the Cheltenham train station. There is free parking for up to two hours on the estate if you are driving and bus stops and the train station within a 5 minute walk from the centre.
