What Information I Collect
When you contact me or use my services, I may collect personal information such as your name, contact details and any information you choose to share. As a counsellor, this may include sensitive information relating to your health and wellbeing where it is necessary to provide counselling services.
If you visit my website, basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type and cookie preferences may also be collected.
How I Use Your Information
Your information is used to respond to enquiries, arrange appointments, provide counselling services, maintain confidential records, meet legal and professional obligations, and improve my website where appropriate.
I only process your information where I have a lawful basis to do so, such as providing a service you've requested, complying with legal obligations, or where you've given your consent.
Confidentiality
Everything you share during counselling is treated confidentially. There may be rare occasions where I am legally or ethically required to share information, such as where there is a serious risk of harm or where required by law. Wherever possible, I will discuss this with you first.
Keeping Your Information Safe
I take appropriate steps to keep your personal information secure. Paper records are stored in a robust, non-portable locked cabinet, and electronic records are password-protected and securely stored. Your counselling records are retained for seven years following the end of counselling, in line with my professional insurance requirements. After this retention period, your records will be securely and confidentially destroyed.
I do not sell your personal information. Where necessary, I may use trusted service providers such as secure email, website hosting or payment services who process information on my behalf and are required to protect it.
Cookies
My website may use cookies to help it function and to understand how it is used. Where required, you will be asked for your consent before non-essential cookies are used.
Your Rights
You have the right to access the personal information I hold about you, ask for inaccurate information to be corrected, request that information is deleted where appropriate, object to certain types of processing, and withdraw your consent where this applies.
If you have any concerns about how your information has been handled, please contact me in the first instance. If you remain dissatisfied, you have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
